Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I need counselling?

Counselling is an effective way of working through issues such as trauma, bereavement, identity, and change (this is not an exhaustive list). On the other hand you can also consider counselling not as a need but as a way to gain more contentment, establish healthy boundaries, and improve relationships both with yourself and with others. We go to the GP for physical check-ups, why not go to counselling for wellbeing check ups?

What does a first session look like?

I am aware that beginning counselling can be daunting. The first session is about creating a comfortable space where you can feel heard.

Upon greeting you, I will discuss with you the details laid out on my intake form such as confidentiality, details of my regulating body, duration of sessions, cancellation policy. We will then discuss any previous counselling experience, if applicable.

By the end of the first session we will have identified the presenting issues, discussed therapeutic approaches, and collaborated on a wellbeing plan that works for you. Self-care is a huge focus of all of my practice with clients.

How long are counselling sessions?

50 – 60 minutes.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

No need to bring anything but some of my clients do like to have a bottle of water with them.

Do I need to book counselling and coaching sessions seperately?

No. I have integrated the two disciplines into how I work so you do not need to specify.

How much do sessions cost?

€70 per session.

Are sessions covered by my health insurance?

Health insurance cover varies between plans and providers. I will provide receipts upon request. I am fully accredited with the APCP and am happy to provide a copy of my accreditation certificate for you to send to your insurance company.

How do I pay for sessions?
Payment can be made by bank transfer, Revolut @helenaoleary, or by Stripe payment link.
Do you work with a specific age group?

Yes. I work with adults from 16 up only and currently work only on a one to one basis.

Where are you located?

I work from three different locations: Online over Zoom, Wolfe Tone Square, Bantry, and Plunkett Chambers on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork City centre. Full directions will be given in booking confirmation email.

Toilet facilites at both locations.
